Any application that sits on its own (not delivered within an existing multi event app) does require an Apple license. There are two license and thus deployment options with Apple:
- Enterprise License – an application using a client’s enterprise license must be for an event which involves the employees of the organization only. In other words, the event is an internal event and not open to attendees outside of the organization in question. Apps being released with an enterprise license are not seen in the public facing Appstore and are thus accessed via a direct download from a download page, via direct distribution by the company using their MDM software, etc.
- Developer License – any event which will have attendees that are outside of the host organization, regardless of whether they are invite only, paid, or free and public, will require this license option. These applications are published in the public facing Appstore.
